Shelfie Privacy Policy
Shelfie (“we”, “us”) is a personal book-tracking app. This policy explains what information the app collects, how it is used, and the choices you have.
Information we collect
- Account information. If you create an account, we collect your email address and authentication credentials (handled by Firebase Authentication).
- Library data. Book titles, authors, reading status, format, ratings, finish dates, written reviews, and optional cover images you add.
- Photos you choose. If you pick a cover from your photo library, Shelfie accesses only the image you select. We do not browse your full photo library.
- Device storage. Books and covers may also be stored locally on your device (including when you are signed out).
How we use information
- To provide and sync your personal reading shelf across devices when you are signed in.
- To look up book metadata and cover art via third-party book search services (Google Books and Open Library) based on search queries you enter.
- To operate account features such as email verification, password reset, and account deletion.
Where data is stored
- On your device using local storage (SQLite and the device file system for cover images).
- In the cloud with Firebase (Google) when you create an account and sync your shelf, including authentication and book data associated with your user ID.
Third-party services
Shelfie relies on:
- Firebase Authentication and Firebase/Firestore (or related Firebase storage) for accounts and synced library data
- Google Books API and Open Library for book search results and cover references
Those services process data according to their own privacy policies. Shelfie does not sell your personal information.
Data sharing
Your shelf is private to your account. We do not operate a public social feed of reviews. We do not sell personal data. Limited technical data may be processed by the infrastructure providers above solely to run the app.
Account deletion
You can delete your account from Profile → Delete Account. This permanently deletes your Shelfie account and synced cloud books. Books stored only on the device may remain until you remove the app or clear that local data.
Children’s privacy
Shelfie is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
Changes
We may update this policy from time to time. The “Last updated” date at the top will change when we do. Continued use of Shelfie after an update means you accept the revised policy.
Contact
Questions about privacy can be sent through the support contact listed on Shelfie’s App Store page, or by opening an issue on the Shelfie GitHub repository.
